Step 4: Start to sew along pattern.

There are hundreds of different embroidery stitches, ranging from very basic, quick stitches, to extremely ornage, time-consuming ones. For an amazing archive of stitches (complete with beautiful pictures and descriptions), visit In A Minute Ago, the remarkable website of Sharon B.

  a) Push needle from the back of the handkerchief to the front. Don't knot the loose end.
  b) As you work, stitch the loose end into the back of the sewing. This is tidier than knotting.
c) A simple chain stitch; push the needle back through the preceding stitch. This is a very quick way to fill-in lines.

Step 5: Finish the handkerchief by sewing a border. A simple running stitch is the easiest way to polish the edges of the handkerchief.

When you reach the end of the thread you are using, finish either by knotting off the end, or by tucking thread under pre-existing stitches and cuting off the remainder. Since handkerchiefs are washed frequently, knotting is advised.
