Ex-Consumer Report/ Exconsumer Violations 2005

Expensive cameras. Ostensibly for work purposes.

Used fisherman pants. (Are pre-used items okay?)

New running shoes, purchased by my mother at my request. My old ones made my legs hurt since the sole had worn off.

Forty N-95 Particle Respiratior Masks. (In preparation for the Avian Flu)

Fancy plants. Most are from garage sales, but all the purple stuff was store-bought.

An extremely expensive paintbrush. I don't know why I bought this. Emblematic of other home-repair purchases (see "What I want for Christmas: Half-Used Hardware")

Wreath-making supplies. Emblematic of other materials purchased so that I could make, not buy presents for my friends and family.

Hair Gel. For those who read "Land Without Gel," I gave in.

Paper towels are generally against the rules, though I bought some for the bathroom after the stomach flu outbreak in November.

Photographic prints. Should this be against the rules?

Toxic rooting hormone and fungicide. This stuff is not good for anyone, and it should definately be against the rules.

Gardening pants. My other ones all developed gaping holes in the seat area, and I gave in and bought a sturdier pair. Since buying them, I've worn them almost every day.

New Verizon Cell Phone

I bought a Verizon cell phone, hoping that it would get better reception than the one I got used from craigslist last year. It didn't work as well, so I returned it again. SAVED!

Purchased used: Bill McKibben's "Hundred Dollar Holiday." After reading an interview with McKibben about the book, I wanted to review it for Sparrowpost. Is buying things used okay?

Shiny Purple Quilted Handbag from Brazil

In a weird lapse of Exconsumer Faith, I went shopping on the internet. I bought a shiny, extra cheap quilted handbag from Brazil. After I sent away my credit card info, I felt so guilty that I called the merchant and cancelled my order. They refused to refund my money, but didn't send me the purse. Hmmmmm....
